Newspaper, television and radio coverage is a common occurrence for our program in Khabarovsk. In May and June 2007 we were
interviewed for television news programs twice, for newspaper articles four times and for radio three times. Each of these news
interviews presents an opportunity for our local governmental and NGO partners to be interviewed as well, and it is our partners who
promote this media coverage. To the right, Krai Ministry official Anatoly Frolov is interviewed for the nightly news.
The May 2007 edition of the magazine "Native Amur" (left) was dedicated to the Amur River "spot" (the November 2005 Jilin chemical
spill and its aftermath.) Thomas Benke appears on page 34 with the SRI Model 310 GC/PID donated by the City of Portland Water Bureau
to Khabarovsk Vodokanal in 2006. The byline for the article is given to Gennady Pocherevin, Krai Minister of Natural Resources.
We call him "Mr. October", Portland Water Bureau Principal Engineer David Peters. His appearance in the 2007 Vodokanal promotional
poster (right) is a positive sign that our involvement in City of Khabarovsk water quality issues is welcomed.
On June 19th Mr. Benke, Mr. Rosenthall and Mr. Jorgensen were guests on the local morning television show "Good Morning Khabarovsk."
The half hour segment included some discussion of our work on in-stream assessment but quickly turned to the "feel good" story of
our finding a nesting endangered Amur River turtle during our sediment sampling activities. Our partner the All Russian Nature
Protection Society of Khabarovsk (represented by Vladimir Sidorov) also had an opportunity to promote its agenda of citizen initiated
environmental protection. When we obtain a copy of that program, we will put the link here. Meanwhile, you can watch us
on the nightly news! (Click on the television, right.)
