Distribution systems have been a substantial part of the Portland Water Bureau and Vodokanal collaboration from the start.  Everyone recognizes that it does not do much good to improve the water treatment system if the drinking water becomes recontaminated in the distribution system due to infiltration or biological growth within the pipes.  To the right, Vladimir Kim of Vodokanal (left) is pictured with Rick Lapp of the Portland Water Bureau at the working end of a new water distribution pipe installation in Portland - 20 feet underground!

The Portland Water Bureau and Vodokanal representatives spent a great deal of time discussing the function of long term planning for public water systems.
A contractor demonstrates use of the mobile camera used to inspect water lines in Khabarovsk.  The technology is necessary because Khabarovsk's water lines are much deeper than Portlands due to the colder environment in the RFE.
