The Portland Water Bureau Water Laboratory prepared a full week program for Vodokanal laboratory staff in Portland. The Vodokanal
chemists worked not only in the PWB water lab but also visited and collaborated with several State of Oregon and private laboratories.
Immediately
after the November 2005 chemical spill in China the Portland Water Bureau purchased for the City of Khabarovsk (with half the cost
donated by SRI) a state of the art gas chromatograph, the SRI Model 310 GC/PID. The device was brought to Khabarovsk in
June 2006. In May 2007 the project brought Vodokanal laboratory staff to SRI in Torrance, California to work directly with SRI
to optimize of the device. To the right, Evgenia Vakhnina prepares to inject a sample into an SRI GC/PID under the supervision
of SRI President Hugh Goldsmith.
Bert Seierstad, Head of the PWB Water Laboratory (left) organized the chemists' program, gained the chemists access to the most advanced
laboratories in Oregon, and ensured that their training was relevant and productive. David Peters, Principal Engineer of the
Portland Water Bureau, looks on from behind during a conference at the PWB Water Laboratory.

Portland delegation.

310 GC/PID.
The Portland river assessment specialists review design drawings at the new federal laboratory being built under the supervision of
Vladimir Markevich.
The Vodokanal chemists worked at several laboratories in Portland, including the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality's central
laboratory. There they reviewed the analytical protocols and technologies used by Oregon's most advance laboratories.

and Evgenia Vahknina (Senior Chemist of Vodokanal Water Lab)..
Training of the Vodokanal chemists included a half day at the headquarters of SRI Instruments in Torrance, CA (near Los Angeles).

that the Portland Water Bureau donated to Khabarovsk Vodokanal.
